Is it the same as installing a 939 chip?

I know how to upgrade a 939 chip onto a 939 motherboard, would this method be the same as the AM2? What do i need to know about the AM2, is there something new i should know? how to apply thermal paste on it? etc..?

The actual socket change there wouldn't even be noticed since they look almost identical while one sees more pins(AM2) then the other. The increase in socket size itself seems almost non existant between the two types where you simply lower the cpu down inplace and press the lever down and see that locked with the retainer.

The references depend on the paster or compound used where only a paper thin coat is spread evenly across the top of the cpu itself or on the bottom the hsf used if aftermarket and the stock one included retail not OEM for builders. One article besides the illustrations as far as Artic Silver 5 advised stirring that brand of thermal paste as it was applied until you saw the circle about the size of a rasin. That is how the small bead of paste looks when you stir the silver particles seen a thin silver line in the grey paste prior to spreading the small amount evenly across the surface.

For a totally different new compound seeing an epoxy base rather the typical ceramic the Liquid Pro sees a one time application while you may have to remove and reapply AS-5 after a year or so when it starts to give out a little. That compound is limited to non aluminum type hsfs however since it will tend to be like acid and partitially dissolve aluminum like a corrosive.

There not pins difference, but only one pin more. 939 has (hint) 939 pins and AM2 and AM2+ has 940 pins. Plus the sockets are the exact same size, they only added a pin the the corner. But they do install just as a 939 socket does.

Whether Socket A, 754, 939, AM2, or now AM3 the Ziff insertion type sockets remain the same where the cpu simply drops in and you tighten the retaining lever down inplace. Once that is done you have the choice or appying the paste direct on top of the cpu itself while some prefer it on the bottom of hsf for easier cleaning if they later swap cpus or replace the hsf itself.

How many times will you say that, its AM2+, AM3 will not be released till late 2008 for there 45nm processors and DDR3

Again you missed the point being made as usual! It doesn't if AM3 isn't seen until 3002! What was being explained here is that the newer cpu will be installed in the same manner on an AM2 board as well as how things are seen on a 939.

The main difference would be seen more with heat sink/fan or fanless cpu cooler installed. Different ones will see a one piece bracket while others need to use screw in fasteners instead being presseed down inpace to see a set of retainers snap inplace under tension there.

You know, you 2 could go ahead and argue it out through pm. No need to spam up this guy's topic (and another one i've seen if i'm not mistaken)
