Does anyone possibly know how a wireless card antenna?
Whats inside it?
How does it pick up a signal?

My antenna on my linksys wireless card is detachable probably like all. So is it possible to make like a 50ft cord that attaches to the computer and then on the other end, it attaches to an antenna mounted on my roof? I want to put the antenna outside. I also would like to do it as cheap as possible.
I really need suggestions. I am too far from the router. I am like 280ft away and the router only goes 300ft! so my signal really sucks.

I am thinking about trying that thing you make out of paper and foil. Do you think that will help me?

you will need a signal booster, definitely. 50 feet is too far for the small antenna to get a clean signal i think.

No, actually i am in a total separate house from the router.
1. do you guys think that paper/foil thing that you put on the antenna will help me at all?
2. I will need to get a directional antenna because a booster will not be compatible with the router. It seems that nothing is compatible with Verizon FIOS. So what db of antenna do you think i should get? I do have a signal right now of 5.5 Mbps and i should be getting like 50-100, i am not exactly sure what Mbps the hardwired computer gets. I know its more than 50 though.

are you worried about networking into the router(file sharing etc) if not- would it be worth maybe considering a seperate optic cable?(I have no idea of USA call rates/charges) or maybe a faster router?
