how is the overclocked cpu life spend?

I am going to overclock my opteron 165, 1.8Ghz into hopefully 2.6~8Ghz.
it might sound lot, but people have done it, and it seem possible.
but what i am interested in knowing is how long my cpu can work withought getting fried.
i heard the average cpu life spend is 10years?
but i also heard that opterons are often left on 24/7, therefore the life spend is longer
so, i wonderd how long would my cpu last if i were to overclock it like crazy.

......at 8Ghz? Id say a few days...... overclocking like that isnt for performance or normal usage, its just a crazy hobby.
then you gotta spend a few thousand on cooling system.

lol, 8 Ghz? I would say that is near impossible... He did mean 2.6 to 2.8 Ghz.

Oh, and spacedude89, the "~" means about/around/near, etc... ;)

technically its "similar"

Yeah, but it varies alot nowadays. You can even use that symbol in mathmatical terms, e.g.

X = ~3.4 (however I believe it is two "~" one on top of the other...

Heya

I believe that at 2.7-2.8Ghz, it should still last for a few years. It will shorten the lifespan but not by something astronomical. Make sure that you stay at a reasonable Vcore and all should be fine. Even if it lasts for 3 years or something, by then the CPU will be a joke then and you could buy a replacement for cheap.
