I am thinking of getting this Barebone deal (thak you for the suggestion Vix!) and i had just couple general questions http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...&cm_mmc=Email-_-Main-_-WEM1677-_-barebonedeal

1. is "AMD A64 X2 5000+ 2.60GHz" the latest in processor technology? or is it one generation behind?

2. If i read correctly, this build is supposed to come with a built in graphics card. Is it any good ?

3. I know this barebone deal is missing a processor cooling fan, cd/dvd reader, is there anything else its missing?

4. speaking of missing processor cooling fan and cd/dvd reader, how much are they usually?

5. how is linux? need to get an os. i am gonna go cheapest way possible- free. Does it run most standard program/games IE. firefox, starcraft, diablo.

6. FINAL AND MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION. In your personal opinion, do you think this is a good deal?

thank you everyone in advance!

Yes it is a generation behind but still rather good.
doesn't seem to be missing anything else apart from dvd drive but there cheap as these days.
I would strongly recommend Fedora 9 it's brilliant

And you can download a program called "wine" which allows you to use some windows software. I have seen wine allow you to play some rather recent games. Also microsoft office, and other software. Also you can have virtual xp through fedora if the need is required.

And yes a think thats a great system for the price

That is good!!!!

i have exactly the same motherboard and it is very good, i have AMD and it is good.

linux will be fine

CD / DVD burner = around $30
Fan = Ranges best ones are around $50

yes it is a built in video card, so you might want to buy one.

Also, what are you going to be using the computer for???

That barebones deal looks pretty good. The only things you are missing is an operating system and a fan and heat sink for your processor.

Be sure you buy a fan and heat sink to mount on your processor and mount it BEFORE trying to boot up your computer for the first time.

Edit: Oops, you are also missing an optical drive.

I would said it about the right price...
My main concert is on the PSU coming with the case. No idea about its quality.
The chipset of Mobo is old, but useable
RAM overprice and slow, but useable
I suggest go for newegg and pick up hardware seperately.
Also, intel provide better performance on CPU, but if you want to use onboard VGA, AMD could be the better choice.

Approx. $300 after MIR

Thank you everyone for your input. Can you guys give me more input about the graphic card that comes attached to this system? i am not a heavy gamer but i still want some gaming on my computer
