How long do you guys leave your computers on for?

Is it fine for the equipment if you leave it on all day? Because i like to get up and turn my pc on ,and leave it on untill i go to bed, cause i get on and off of it quite frequently. So will it ruin the equipment if i leave it on all day. I dont think it will, but i just want to make sure.

Mines on and folding 24/7 as well. 100% CPU and Video card usage all the time. I do reboot my computer every week or so, just for good measure. As long as you have adequate cooling, you should be fine.

As long as it doesn't overheat or anything, it really shouldn't matter. I leave mine on all day and shut it down at night(or if I'm gone for over an hour) However, I used to leave my computers on 24/7. Dad does with his, but he also leaves it rendering videos and such over night.

I cant even remember the last time i shut any of mine down. I think it was in early November, but it may have been sooner. Like everyone else said keep it cool and there should be no issues.

just rememer that hdd has mttf :)

On a side note, now that you mention it, is there a place to find out the MTTF for specific brands?

I thought that I read somewhere that the Maxtor drives are rated at 1.4 million hours, but I could be wrong?

i leave it on all day, but its to loud to leave it on at nights, i cant sleep lol but if i had a choice, i would leave it on, but a reboot is a must once a day to clean cache ;)

I usually have mine on in the day and off at night.

Same here. I have to reboot usually once or twice a day, just cause my computers a piece of junk. It makes noises that scare me sometimes so i'll shut it down for an hour a couple of times throughout the day.

Once a day . How do people keep their computers on for months at a time, then;)

on weekdays usually for 3PM to 9-10 PM, weekends AM to 3-5AM the next day, sometimes we download a whole bunch of stuff and leave it on all night

I never shut it down unless I absolutely have to. And I keep it in a closed closet:eek: !!! It basically only shuts down when I change a setting that requires a restart or when the power goes out....That's probaly why my harddrives is dying:D

theres a server at work where i checked the up time of the computer and is at 2 years and 11 days LMAO.... i think it is thanks to the UPS.
