i thought i would post this threat under "hard drives"
because i think the hard drives actually matter when it comes to spead for turning on your comuter.
well I have raptor hard drive, that might give me some adventage.

sometimes mine will take 30-35 seconds but other times 4-5 minutes i dont know whats up with it. you think it might be a hard drive problem? the drive is brand new.

Which computer? My macintosh takes about 25-35 seconds which isn't too bad really... My laptop, probably 30-40 at 800MHz. I could drop it a bit if I got rid of my other wifi and clocking program.

Yea

That's a good point indeed. My computer gets to Windows real fast but then the antivirus, firewall and other essential apps slow it down.

JAN :D

mine is just really weird at the moment, it will take like 30 secs to load up to a point where it appears to be done, it is using 0% processor according to task manager, and just sits there fro around a minute, then continues loading, it is really annoying me, and i can't figure out what it is, so in total it is probably around 1 minute 40 secs

about 30-40 seconds for me. WHen i get to desktop theres no CPU usage but it will only load apps about 10 seconds later.

8 seconds on average :P
Time it from when you press power until your desktop is fully loaded. 8 seconds is highly unlikely :P

But if your counting how many seconds the XP splash screen is there, well the blue bar makes it across once and then its done. Probably 3-4 seconds going by that

8 seconds of windows loading, about 15 with bios, ill need to optimize that... but i tested a SATAII harddrive like the one im waiting for.... XP bar took about two passes.... not even in RAID :P, and im getting two of them in RAID0

Including post? My board takes a long time before it actualy loads the OS, then windows takes about 19 seconds (damn slow I know). But I do have norton installed which is a system hog. Then the black screen before login last for like another 4 seconds... I dont really know why its so slow, but once in windows its fine.

I have a seriously large amount of programmes load on startup. I just timed it from pressing the power button to no cpu activity - 2.5 mins

Windows loading screen is only on for about 5 seconds, my bios takes longer, to detect my SATA's etc. When windows loads the hard drive is thrashing for an age, even with it fully degragmented...

10-20 seconds for my 2.6.15 kernel. Less than 10 for init="/dev/null" (Technically, the kernel is the operating system, so it's booted ;))

Windows is probally around 10-20 seconds too.

My xp loading bar only goes across about 1/2 :P and thats with normal SATA HDD it's the rest of the xp & bios that takes ages

I wish when I got my RMA back from Maxtor they sent me a 10 series not a 9, at least it was a drive that was 50GB bigger :D

Im booting off my 160GB WD IDE drive. Bar goes lil more then once, Im happy its quick bootup, maybe I should put windows on my Raptor ;)
