its not soley hdd dependent;)
Yeah I know, I had Windows on my Raptor before and it wasnt any faster. I just use it to install my games on.

Know of any ways to tweak startup time?

mine was fast like a day ago! straight after i formatted it it only took like.. a couple of seconds.. after i installed all my drivers and programs.. its taking like.. more than 2 minutes now =\

thats not to say HDD is'nt important. Those running xp from static flash cards will testify to this

55 seconds from the moment I press the power switch to the desktop showing, all startup items loaded, and the hard drive light stops flashing. If you're talking from the POST beep onward, that's 45 seconds.
I used to take a full two minutes and thirty seconds, but that was before I ran Bootvis.

I have never timed it but i would say 50-60 seconds, from the time i press the on button until i can actually use the computer and start a program

You guys are unfair... on my family rig, i have four profiles... and on my Celery rig, its just damn slow. So my best time is prob a minute fifty or so.

About 50s from power on to everything on taskbar loaded.
XP bar makes about 6 passes.

20 seconds usually, including the 5 second bios screen.

that's from power on to when the desktop appears.

it's completely done loading 10-20 seconds after that, since i have no autostart apps whatsoever

sometimes i get the good old windows xp blank black screen hang, tho, and if that happens, there's a 50/50 shot that it will start after a minute or so, or it will never go to the desktop, and i'll have to do a hard restart.
