I need to buy a comp for college soon, and i may be able to convice my parents sto wait a year, and i was wondering if that 800-1000 dollar price tag on the quad cores will come down by then...i dont know if anyone know...and i realize that no one can guarantee anything, but if you have a good idea about how procesor price trends go, then maybe you can help me.

thanks

The quad-cores have already dropped to 550 and the next cut is expected late summer early fall

wow really? where- is that at some special internet site or soemthing? im thinking of getting an xps, but the quat core cots like 800-1000 to upgrade, and if its not cheaper to install myself (550 would be cheaper) then im just gunna upgrade it though dell.

yes, but my freind who knows more about computers than i do, says it costs more, and that i would have trouble installing the heat sink (possibly risking my investment.)

says it costs more to build it yourself? if so, thats not true, i saved a huge amount on buying all my parts from the cheapest places possible as apposed to paying something stupid from dell. really, when you think about it, when you buy and build it yourself you know exactly what is going into it.... its like going to get fast food instead of going home to make your own burger, you know what is exactly going into it...... for cheaper lol......

just keep looking around for price drops and new parts coming out soon, every new part that comes out from the same manufacturer will always have another part drop massively.....

my cpu for example, has dropped by loads since the new quad cores have come out.....

The heatsink gives a little difficulty on some to press it into the motherboard, just do it carefully, it may cost more if you choose very high quality parts. I dont think heatsink installation is a reason not to build lol.
