How long until a laptop goes on sale?

How long after being manufactured does it take for a laptop to go on sale? does it lay around in a warehouse for some period? what does the process look like?

I have no idea what the process looks like but yes they can lay around in a warehouse for a good while and by the time your computer, or more especially, the processor reaches the shelves it is obsolete. The next generation are well into the research stages or even production stages.
