how long will my computer run for?

hi there i have had my dell computer for four years now its a dell dimension 4550 p42.66ghz 512 ram i bought it brand new and haved used it daily for a max of 5 hours and very occassional 12 hrs a day before switching off i use it for internet and making music on reason software and winamp/realplayer for music genral light ram stuff i carry out regular performance and maintanance using windows xp home????

question?? for any experienced computer guys/girls how many more years can i expect to get out of this machine as this one is very reliable and i would not part with it but would like to back the harddrive up just in case any ideas

Performance wise? Or do you mean how long until it breaks? As far as performance, it really depends on what you use it for. If you just use it to go on the internet, write stuff on Word, and maybe look a pics and stuff then it should be fine for another couple years. But if you like to play games (I have a 4500 with a 2.0Ghz P4 + 512 RAM as well) or edit videos and stuff, then you will need to upgrade the videocard and amount of RAM atleast.

And if you're talking about how long before it breaks, then you shouldn't really be concerned with that cause' nobody can say for sure. It could be days or it could be years before something breaks.
 
i have a dell on 24/7 for the past three years, but have had it for 6 years and it still runs strong but cannot play any games whatsoever. its really old, but reliable and never had any problems with it
