Personally i would wait 4ever!

Keep in mind... This game has been "in production" for more than 9 years now. Thats right, since '97 when Quake was released! The first "Release Date" was September '98! Yes, it was supposed to run on the Quake engine! lol!

According to the June 9th review it could be out by 12/31/06.

June 9, 2006 - Buried in Take-Two Interactive's 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday is one little nugget which suggests we may see the ridiculously-delayed Duke Nukem Forever sooner than, well, forever from now.

In a section describing Commitments and Contigencies, Take-Two states it has renegotiated its obligation regarding the title. The company had originally promised to pay $6 million upon delivery of the PC version of Duke Nukem Forever. In March, Take-Two changed the deal: the company will pay $4.25 million for delivery -- but with a bonus promissory note of $500,000 if the game arrives by December 31, 2006.

Of course, this is no guarantee that the next Duke Nukem will appear by the end of the year; it isn't clear how tantalizing half a million dollars looks to 3D Realms, the game's developer. It does appear, however, that Take-Two is as eager as the rest of us to see the game arrive soon.

Console gamers may be left waiting either way -- the promissory note only covers the PC version, and neither company has said whether the game is arriving for platforms like the Xbox 360 or PS3. http://pc.ign.com/articles/712/712012p1.html

It's been many years in the "Anticipation" for sure. I can't complain however. With a program called DosBox I can easily run the original 8bit version on an XP machine through a virtual dos window. :D

wow i didnt know that! And i love DN! I have every game (including the ps and n64 games, even tho i dont have the systems, i play them w/ emulators.) I even have the original DN for DOS lol, but its so awesome, i even still play it

EDIT: Well I shouldn't say that, I think i heard of a version for atari... Damnit...

If you have the original Duke3D cd you will find that DN1 and Nukem2 were included on it. You simply create the correct named folder and copy the DN1 files into it to run with a virtual dos drive with a utility like DosBox. Forget about trying to use the installer at this time. You may be able to get the installer for Duke3D to run however. The fun part is getting the sound to work on the 16bit version of the game. (gee I heard DN1 in 5.1 surround instead of a board speaker with Dosbox for the first time)
