How Long Will...

Hey guys. I've finally convinced my dad to pay for a third of my brand new dream machine. I wanted to know if these specs are pretty much up-to-date and I also want to know how long you guys think this computer will last until a new computer will be needed  .
Specs:
-Asus Vento Case (sorry had to put this in here, love this case :D ) with a 500 W PSU
-ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
-thinkin of getting anywhere from a 3.2-3.8 Ghz CPU for that mobo
-one 7800 GT (I'll upgrade later to dual 7800 GT's)
-I'm going to wait a little until Longhorn(vista) comes out and when is that OS suppose to come out anyway?
-Audigy sound blaster ZS (7.1)

How long the computer will last is up to you. As long as you're happy with the performance then you don't need a new one. When you've upgraded it and it still isn't running as fast as you want, then you can buy a new computer. I know my mom is still happy with her 5 year old IBM. I think that it's a subjective thing.

Vista should be released sometime next summer.

ok, i am gonna guess this is gonna be used for gaming as your name implies, so i would go with an AMD compatible mobo and processor rather than an intel.

yeah, that is an awesome case:) what color?

Haha ya I guess it does depend on how I look at things and judge if it is old or not. I am still thinkin of either getting an AMD or Intel mobo. I have used Intel for a long time now and it really hasn't failed me. However on the other hand, I've never really seen how AMD's are. My friends mostly have AMD's and they say they are pretty good... idk

And shupola, it's gonna either black or blue... cant decide :)

For gaming go AMD all the way :)

Alright... I should decide by the end of this week and if not then then the week after... kind of a big decision when your making your very first gaming PC... *wipes tear*

I've heard that the AMD X2's are very nice, but if you want a single core i'd go with the AMD 64 3700+.

Pretty much no difference between 3500+ and 3700+
If you're going x2, under the $550 limit is...
3800+
4200+
and 4400+
Personally I don't think the price difference between 4200+ and 4400+ is worth it. AMDs are generally not cache bound. (as said in a crap load of other threads)

I'll have to research on those... my friend said that they're benchmarks were reeeeally good, how much would a dual core AMD mobo run about? A good one that is... ;)

There not real expensive, almost all of them are under $200, and you can find some for around $100 i believe.

Ummm... I don't want to spend over 250 on a mobo. This is definently going to be a gaming machine but I don't think I'm going to have to OC a 7800 gtx until gaming gets really good (graphics I mean).

$250? Thats a crapload of money for a mobo, I would get either the DFI lanparty NF4 SLI-DR eXpert, or the ASUS A8N32 SLI-Deluxe.
