Who here has 2 or more cmputer monitors, I'm also wondering whats the use of having 2 screens for one computer?

Do you mean two usable? I use my 32" as my primary and I have a 19" that I used to use, which is sitting on the corner of my desk collecting dust, lol.

I also have a laptop monitor.

Depends, i just have 1 monitor for my comp.
But then when i use my ibook at my desk, i have the ibook screen and also the i hook up the main monitor (in extended desktop)

For my laptop, i have a 17" widescreen (laptop) and a 19" TV that i brought to uni with me, but have no where to use it as a TV. (dont trust people enough to put it in the lounge).

so i use my laptop monitor for main desktop / games etc... (better resolution) and my TV to display MSN, TS, iTunes or the like or a webpage if im playing a game at the same time as reading the page.

Make a sideways stretched desktop...

Making them into a vertical type of desktop...

Making both of them seperate screens and do one thing on one screen, another thing on the other...

I have to 17inch and when i was in school i would run my program on one screen and debug/code in the other screen and now i can do a lot of things on both screens once you get 2 you never go back thats for sure...

i use 2 since its far easier to have multiple things open then with one.

think about it, how often do you switch back and forth between a couple different windows or open programs? if you have 2 screens, then you can better spread the things around to reduce the time spent finding one if the windows.

and i have to agree with what codeman said. once you experience more then 1 monitor, you wont want to go back. getting used to 2 monitors then going back to one feels like getting used to high speed internet then going back to 56k, it feels so ungodly slow, whereas before you even got the high speed internet, the 56k was tolerable.

i'm actually considering getting a 3rd screen. then i can have the primary in the middle and 1 on each side.

a 32 inch (hdtv too) and two 19 inches all widescreen. they all serve their own little purpose. all lcds...

LEFT TO RIGHT
19(2ms)-32(8ms)-19(2ms)

the left one has up thunderbird, itunes, and word documents
the middle 32 inch has up mozilla, steam window, task manager, and is the main desktop
the right one is used for aim and when i want to actually game

it really isnt necessary but i hate being cluttered and .... i love it.
i had four going at once but those were all Crts...pshh - could go fo 6 but nahh.

I have duel CRT monitors (hellz yeah), one on the right which i use for pretty much everything, and one on the left that I always have Windows Media Player on, so i can watch movies or listen to music while I'm playing games and be able to see what going on the whole time.

Oh yeah, i got the flat CRT

:P getting a new LCD for christmas though :D

I used to have dual CRT's, i love dual monitors. I recommend it if you got the money..

Professionals use dual monitors for actual multitasking. The people at my friend's office use them. They engineer the water for the city and have to make big maps and stuff.

For home use, I don't know, I can't think of any practical reason. But that's just me; I won't even use anything bigger than a 19" screen. I guess I'm still used to the idea of LCDs saving space and energy instead of wasting it.

I've been using dual 19" monitors for about 2 years now. It's great as I can run photoshop in one screen and my browswer in another. word processor in one and looking at a pdf/website that I'm using when writing an article in the other. It allows for true multitasking. I'm actually considering moving towards 4 monitors, but it'll have to wait until well after I purchase my new system & dual 22"/24" monitors in about 2 weeks.
