Hey people,

I was just wandering how many operating systems do you people have instaled on one machine?

I just have one

Windows Xp pro
I did have Ubuntu dual booted but later removed it.

Didnt know if i should have posted this in here or in Operating systems.

Please move mods if this is the wrong place:)

Thanks;)

It depends on how many you plan to run. On a Linux forum one source claimed to have some 100 Linux distros running on 4 or 5 hard drives? I found that a little unbelievable even with Linux since you generally can only create 4 primary partitions on a drive. Affter removing two Linux distros from the second drive here(Mandriva-Zenwalk) XP Pro went back on. The Home version was initially installed as the single OS on the primary.

if i want to use a different os i switch machines :)
pc1 -ubuntu
pc2 -xp
pc3 - mce
pc4 - suse
laptop - vista

wish i had that many Pcs:D

One Os i have not tried yet but would love to is Mac Osx:D

Looks realy good
Infact i wouldnt mind picking up a cheap used Macintosh G4 to play around with.

I have three on my main PC; 1. Edubuntu, 2. XP Pro, 3. Vista RC1.

Then I built a cheap one that my mother is using at her store that has 98SE on it.

Then the family computer has XP home on it.

And I hope to build another PC with 98SE on it in the next couple of mouths. :D

i tried osx on one of the machines but unfortunately the card isn't compatible so there are not drivers for it.

Right now 3 different OS's on 3 different computers.
XP, OS X, & Win 2000. I'm hoping to add a version of Linux to the Win2000 computer once I get some extra time and ambition.

I have two copies of XP Home and an Ubuntu disk, with two installations of XP. I have not put Ubuntu on anything yet.

Having more then one hard drive installed on a system does seem to make life a bit easier when going to run multiple OSs doesn't it?! :D With Linux more then one distro can share the same swap partition which are often about 2gb in size. You can even run Window or Mac on the front end there. Some of the newer tricks allow a Linux distro to run on a virtual machine/drive through Windows eliminating the need for an additional one or two partitions.

i had 4 linux os's on my laptop at one time (ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu and ubuntu-server). Now im back to one.

I also that different hard drives allow a max number of different partitions.

4 right now:
1 PC has kubuntu with win2kpro in a virtual machine
1 PC has XP with opensuse in a virtual machine

Virtual machines are really a good way to test new new stuff;)

I've got just XP pro, but then I have MS Virtual PC Installed, and within that I have 200 pro, freenas, reactos, ubuntu, mandrive 2007 and XP Home

i just have xp home.

i dont see the point in all these other operating systems like linux and osx, you cant do anything with them that is better, lots of programs dont work on them, and xp looks cooler :D

main PC has 3 partitons

partition 1: data
partition2: winxp pro
partition 3: blank ready for vista

I have a completely different linux box running ubuntu

I've never been too fond of having multiple partitions on a drive, so all my computers just have a single partition and OS. However, my main LCD has two computers connected to it(my mac and my desktop) so in a way, it has two OS's ;)

well on the one computer i just have XP but i have just DL'ed kubuntu so then i'll have 2. trying to learn as much as i can! all good really!

Nada! How else are you going to run Linux programs and try out other OSs? At one point the primary still using XP Home saw company with dos, 3.1, 98, and Linux on the second drive installed. But then DosBox allows you to run 8bit apps and old dos games on an XP system.

Having any Windows installation on a second partition while leaving no OS on the primary isn't the best move there. Generally you would see XP on a second with 98, ME, or 2K on the primary due to the mbr factor.
