How many people actually plan to crossfire HD 4870 X2

Considering it takes a minimum of a 1 KW PSU ? And do you think power usage is getting out of hand with all the evergrowing release of power thirsty cards especially with the energy efficient components of the rest of the system ?

you would be surprised how many performance freaks must have those extra frames/second, but from what i've heard the scaling between two of them isn't all that great in some games, i think makers will eventually have to limit them, its said that the largest psu available in the U.S. they can make, is an 1800 watt unit, otherwise, it will constantly trip your house's circuit breaker, otherwise a dedicated line will be required

Yep I am not sure if its worth it anyways,I guess if you have a 2500 x1600 res 30 " you might have to to max games like crysis.I hate having to think of buying 2 of the same cards for 10% more performance, not worth it myself.I guess you could always put in a 220 volt line for the high wattage PSU's,LOL.Getting outta control I think myself. They need to make the GPU's more energy efficient.I am planning on moving up to 1900 x1200 res.I think a single HD4870 X2 or GTX 280 might be good for that resolution could probably max 95% of games out there.I wonder if they started producing more multi core dependent games if that would take some strain off the GPU?

YES THEM CARDS WOULD BE good enough for that res but why get the GTX280 for halve the price you cud get a 4870 witch is only 1% slower than the GTX 280

sorry off topic

Where does it say a minimum of 1KW? My entire system uses 533W according to the PSU calculator at almost full load, you may be able to get by with an 850W, then again though they are almost up there with 2KW PSU's, but if anyone needs that much power their electric bill would be huge!

well, a huge electric bill depends on your system settings. if you have your system power down the video card after 10mins and you game for an hour a day then your electric bill wont be that high.

but generally, two of those cards is a waste of money to start, and yea they will result in a higher electric bill. i know guys who have bought all fluorescent light bulbs for their house to cut down on how much electricity they use. hey, every bit helps .. and he has LAN parties sometimes too so he wants to stress his fuse box as little as possible. or watever. lol

If you look at specs tab ,Manufacturer of this brand recommends 1KW PS for use with 2 cards in crossfire.Other manufacturers I looked at dont mention crossfire,Hehe I guess they dont think anyone is crazy enough to run 2 I guess :D...If we have to run 220 volt lines for efficiency of our comp Psu we will be in bad shape ,it would be like our electric ranges and clothes dryers due to load ;)
