How many ram memory sticks can you have ?

depends on motherboard, cheaper motherboards tend to have only 2, some with 3. Usually there's 4 slots on a motherboard, but if you have a server board there could be alot more. You should try reading the stickied 101's, tells you alot about things.
 
Also worth mentioning is that your motherboard also limits RAM size as a whole. It may support up to 4 sticks, but only 2GB. So if you stick in 4*1GB sticks, it will only recognize 2 of them.
 
Is this thread related to your thread for building a pc? Because you have apparently chosen a board (link), and that one has 2 slots and a max of 2GB PC3200.
 
Well not a lot more than the motherboard on your list. Having said that, your choices seem to be all over the place, if you don't mind me saying. Your processor is an Intel Celeron and you're planning on trying to make it work with an Athlon 64 motherboard. All I can say is good luck.

My point is, I can pick you out a good board with 4 memory slots, but working out what hardware will go with it is your first step, otherwise compatability will just not be there.

If you are so unsure about pc hardware, are you sure it will be wise trying to build an entire pc?
 
well i would really like to build one so i can have it just the way iwant it plus it works out cheaper i no i really dont have a clue when it comes to hardware but that is why i signed up to this forum i wos hoping some one would help me decide which components are the best and which ones are compatible but no one seems to have replied to my buildin a computer thread
 
OK well if you are sure you want to try a build, then fair enough. Having said that, it is getting quite messy with different threads concerning different aspects of the same build. You may have noticed it took some people, including me, some time to realise that your question about RAM was related to your build thread.

If you want, I can help you via PM's to get the basics out of the way (assuming you have read thoroughly the Building Computers 101 of course). Once we have decided upon a build that's compatible, that can be posted in your build thread and people can suggest how to tweak it. But until you have a starting point, it will be near impossible for anyone to suggest anything, possibly why the replies have been on the sparse side.

Is this acceptable?
 
you can own as many as you like...
2-4 can go into a computer though.
for servers, normally its more... i think the most ive seen was 16, but thats like quadruple processor motherboards and such.

welll.....where to being. 1st, use some punctuations, it makes reading your posts alot easier ;) .

Second, read all the 101's, they give you a good idea about things in a computer.

And third, almost all mainstream motherboards today have 4 slots. Only the cheaper ones have 2 slots. So you should really judge a motherobard by how many ram slots it has.
