I think there's a clear problem here, that it's not clear whether the thread starter meant bandwith on its own, i.e. connection speed, or a bandwidth limit or cap per month.
i have never seen a limited monthly bandwidth ever advertised in my area, comcast nor at&t even have it as an option, its all unlimited..in my area anyway, usually from $28 for dsl and $42.95 for cable
My cox cable connection usually tests out somewhere around 2MB Up and 500 K down. I have never heard of a monthly total bandwidth limitation for home broadband.
If you have a dedicated server with someone like ServerMatrix, they will generally cap your monthly bandwidth off at 1000-2000 Gigabytes traffic/month.
On 1mb (too far away from the exchange to get anything faster, although with cable I could get 10mb, but 1mb is doing me fine), and my limit is 50gb a month, but I'm not much of a downloader, so I never blow this. The connections crud to most, but adequate for my needs.
