Ok right now im on a 2.0 ghz pentium 4 with 512 ram. How much faster will a athlon 64 X2 4200 with 1gb of dual channel ram be.
Comparatively, 200MHz faster. But that's prolly not very useful of an anaswer (correct as it may be). As for a meaningful answer, it will be more-than-significantly-noticeably faster
the ram will make it go faster
Memory will make computing faster but it wont make the chip any faster
3800 are a steal @ £220 and can go faster than FX-60 On water and with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro (£17) you can get to 2.4 Ghz without breaking into a sweat!
1. Damn you guys pay a boatload for them
2. Why would water be needed for 2.6GHz?
go with aMushkin 1GB PC3200 Dual Channel Kit
1. Mushkin also makes non-performance oriented memory
2. The dual channel "kit" factor doesnt affect anything
should i go with the 3800 and maybe get 2gb of ram would that be alot better. thanks
Well it depends on what the bottleneck is in what you do ... but since you're asking, you probably wont ever notice. So go with the cheapest route
id say go for the 3800 and just get 1.5gig ram
Which will perform potentially worse as you lose out on 50% of memory bandwdith
some gaming some video/photo/music editing and jsut all around use.
Odds are you wont notice: if you can afford it, go for the 4200 and 1GB ... if you want to OC, make sure you dont skimp out on the memory ... but since good memory is expensive, you'll more than likely have to drop down to the 3800
Brand doesnt mean all that much. Most if not all, makes make the full spectrum of memory products
is the corsar value select ram good. cause i could get 2 gb of that with the money i save on the processor.
Sure but if you're buying the box for overclocking, dont expect all that much from it
there is going to be a large difference in speed bettween a 5ish year old 2ghz pentium 4 with 512 of ram compared to a new x2 4200 with a gb of ram correct.
Depends on what you're doing but it's prolly safe to say that there is a boatload of difference
