Here the parts of my setup that i think would need ide cables running to them...

Mobo - ASUS Striker Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i

( this mobo has one IDE slot and one FDD slot )

HDD1 - Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFDRTL 150GB 10,000 RPM

HDD2 - Seagate Barracuda ES ST3400620NS 400GB 7200 RPM

OP Drive - HP 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With LightScribe

so how much of those IDE cables will i need? or ar they conflications using that kind of cable?

Your hard drives have a different connection then your CD drive.

To give it to you straight and simple, you would only need one of those cables. Which would go from motherboard to CD drive.

:)

then what about the hdds?
also where would that one cable go? from the FDD port on my mobo to the dvd drive?

Your hard drives are Serial ATA, also known as SATA. Which looks like this. (Product)

(THANKS WIKI)

The IDE cable you have/buy will plug into the IDE slot on your motherboard (don't worry, there is only 1 it fits in). NOT the FDD. The other end of the IDE cable will go to your dvd drive.

Is this SATA cable new or something? becuse on my computer i have now the har drives have ribbon cables going to them. I dont have anything like that cable in my computer.

EDIT. never mind i read that Wiki article u posted. i see that the ribbon cables are old tech. standard ATA cables. so i need these SATA cables to go from my mobo to the hdds and an IDE cable to go to my mobo to my dvd drive right?

Both harddrive are Sata drives so you need Sata cables for them. The W/D is Sata 1.5 and the Seagate is a Sata 3.0

Stranglehold: I did a google and saw his hard drives where also SATA, but this puzzles me.

Are you sure you are telling us the EXACT hard drive model you have? Are you sure your hard drives are IDE and not SATA?

If they are IDE you will need to get a different motherboard, or new hard drives.

Nah, you can use 1.5gb/s cables with the 3gb/s hard drive. As for finding 3gb/s cables, first thing that pops up on newegg. Click. Ive never used there products so I dont know if thats a good one or not, but there are other companies that make 3gb/s, you just have to look.

As stranglehold stated, if your getting a new motherboard and its not oem, it should come with all the necessary SATA cables anyway.
