just wanted to know if anyone would buy this. bought it from gateway a couple years ago for like $2000.

vista
intel core 2 quad 2.4 ghz
3326 mb ram
geforce 8600 GT

basically what i want to know is if this thing is worth anything.

also, i am not up to date on computer hardware. could i make a computer as good or better than this for around 600 bucks?

It's only worth a couple hundred at best as its already old technology.

Providing all you need is the tower then yeah, you could build something as good if not better for around that amount. I don't have time right now to qoute a build as i'm about to head out for awhile but i'm sure someone here does.

Agreed.

For $600, provided you don't need peripherals, you can actually build a nice machine, and definitely better in the graphics area.

What I'd recommend though is for you to buy a new video card, like the 5770, if needed, a new PSU, and you'll be good to go. And if you want a new case, you can get that too.

if i get a new graphics card...will my computer melt?

You mean overheat? I doubt it. The only issue you might have is the PSU.

What PSU do you have now, and how many watts is it? Also, do you know the 12V and 5V Rail ratings?
