I was wondering how much i should sell my old Compaq Presario S5314ST (with a few tweaks) for. Here are the specs:

Compaq
Presario S5314ST
32x CD-R Drive (48x CD-ROM)
16x DVD-ROM drive
512mb RAM
Onboard S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR video card 32mb
Onboard Intel Sound Card (unknown)
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.13gHz processor
40gb EIDE HDD
w/ power supply
NO OS
Logitech wired keyboard (108 standard keys, 12 function keys, plus multimedia/internet keys)
Dynex wired laser mouse w/ scroll wheel and side buttons
6 USB 2.0 ports (4 rear, 2 front)
3 PCI ports
1 AGP port
1 HDD expansion bay
1 drive expansion bay

I am not selling the monitor.
I am trying to sell some old computers to raise money so i can build my new one. I was wondering if the computer would be worth more in parts or together, and if so, how much should i sell it for?

Thank you!

i was going to say around 120-207 USD. But then i skipped over which proccessor it was, and then i relize it has none. So at Max i would buy that for 60-70 USD at MAX, be lucky if you get any more than $40 for that. But its a great idea to sell some older, to build some new.

well i am building a new computer but im horribly short on funds. i don't have a job because i am only 14. i have offered to build others computers at the cost of the parts plus 20%-ish for profit. but nobody believes that i can build the computer. any tips or ideas?

by the way, i do have the processor. its an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ at 2.13gHz. i figured i would have to use this in my new computer to save some money. but if i can make that much, i may just sell it and buy a newer, faster processor. what do you think would be better?

Lol, if you have never built a computer before then I dont blame people for being skeptical of your abilities for +20%! I would just wait a few years till you can get a job then get a decent computer. Anything you get now with limited funds and that processor you are probably not going to be all that thrilled about.

agree with ninja on the waiting part.
i disagree about being thrilled about your first build.
even if it's a 32mb ram 166mhz computer build it's a great feeling if it starts working :P

I didnt mean it in terms of not being proud you did it, more that you would be happier waiting and building a really awesome system that your gonna use for a while. Doing a low end system now is gonna make you wander why you didnt save that money in a few years when your ready to do a nice system build.

i would do one better than that specifically 64mb of ram 332mhz processer a 7 inch tube moniter with windows 95, but wait a 1x cd burner, lol. wait until your 15 or something i know some golf/county clubs will hire you to bus tables, or at least thats the way it is around here

Why not ask your parents?

Building computers are easy. Especially if you're knowledgeable in that area. Me? 11 was my first computer. :) Everything was bliss.

true but still. it's a nice practice.
screwing up your $1000 build is much worse then your $200 build.

Well, i live in vermont, and theres about two country clubs in the whole county, and neither are within an hour's drive.

also, i didn't say this was my first build. i have built a few computers. i built my father a pc for use at his law firm, and i built several low-class computers out of parts I already own. i also resurrected an old Presario laptop running windows 95. i really want to get into power usage and high-tech gaming, and i want to build the computer that will get me there.

im beginning to wonder if i should put up flyers for computer building services in my community. although some of my friends doubt i can build a computer (your classic 'you'd have to be a rocket scientist to build that thing' people), im sure many people in my community would believe me. after all, i live in a small town, and most people who know me come to me for all kinds of computer advice (just yesterday i solved my neighbor's OS difficulties. he attempted to install a new hard drive as a slave but didnt jump them properly, causing some conflict). so, once again, im open to any tips, especially ways to broadcast my computer building abilities to those in need.

Pick berries in the summer, mow lawns in the spring and summer shovel snow in the winter, get a paper route. Collect cans and bottles{we have a refund for them here in Oregon, disregard that part if your state hasn't passed a bottle bill} Save your allowance, tell your parents you are willing to do extra jobs around the house.

Hey everybody,
thanks for the advice and help. I have acquired a loan from my parents, enough to pay for all the parts.

SO, this means the specs have changed FOR THE ORIGINAL COMPUTER. I added an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.13gHz processor, a keyboard, and a mouse. Also, i upgraded the 30gb HDD to a 40gb.

Please, can i get a new estimate? everything is used but in a good condition.

in case anyone was wondering, i picked out:

Xion II XON-103 Full-Tower case w/ 450w power supply
250gb Seagate Barracuda HDD
Lite-On CD/DVD-RW Drive
Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse
Corsair XMS2 2gb (2 x 1gb) DDR2 RAM
ASRock motherboard
Intel Celeron D 356 Cedar Mill 3.33gHz processor
BFG Tech nVidia 7300 GT 512mb video card

I don't really get what you're doing? You've got money off your parents, so you upgraded the old computer?

I would put it flyers and such, with a contact number, somebody will get in touch with you, then the word will spread like wild fire ;)

no i got the money to build a new comp, and im selling the old comp. the specs changed because i have more money, so i can put my old parts that i planned to keep in the old comp and sell them.

Id say keep it and have it as a computer to download music onto or something. It's really not worth anything more than your own person use as a POS computer

are you sure? i dont really need a second comp and i need the money. do u think i could sell for $220? it was $500+ new and in a decent condition

well... you said your dad is a lawyer... im sure over spring vacation you can work for him for comeputer parts. then this summer you can work for the same thing. you can file papers or whatever else he needs. mowe the lawns, hit up people in the area around you for the same thing. ask if there is any work arounf the house they need done for money so you can build your computer. there is alot of ways to make money. just sell your labor to the highest bidder
