How much overclocking safe for GPU

I've got an EVGA 9800 GTX+ and have downloaded Precision application to control the fan.

There is an easy overclock in the application that I have pretty much ignored b/c of my lack of knowledge about overclocking GPU's. Is there a safe general guideline I can overclock this card safely to .

The default clocks are
Core Clock - 738
Shader Clock - 1836
Memory Clock - 1100

I'd like to speed up the card ( within reason ) - but don't want to burn it out and don't want to purchase any additional cooling devices beyond the stock fan. I could anticipate upgrading this card in a year or 2 - but don't want to do it because I'm forced to upgrade. I'd rather upgrade b/c I want to - when I want to - if I want to.

Thanks

Well, stock clock on my 9800gtx(non +) black edition was 760, and with the 9800gtx+ being a 55nm shrink you should be able to get 760core(linked with shaders) and 1140 memory. I have my original at 780/1220 for core/memory though, with shaders linked.

I bumped my

Core Clock to 758 ( next jump is 762 can't hit 760 ).

Mem clock is now set at 1140.

Everythings working fine - anybody else have something to add - please do.

Thanks
