Hey guys,

I am building my first buget pc :) but i am not sure about the power supply

:o this is the set up i want to use:

CPU : AMD AM3 Phenom II x4 955 3.2Ghz Quad Core

Mobo: ASUS M4A87TD-USB3 870

RAM : Kingston HyperX TI XMP 6GB Kit(2Gx3) ddr3 1600

GPU : POV GTS450 PCI-E2.0 1GBDDR5 2DualLinkDVI HDMI DX11 SLI

HDD : x2 sata normal speed (these i already have) dn`t know what rpm

DVD/WR : x2

Cooler : Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus Universal Cooler

Now optional i would like to over clock the CPU and add ssd as an upgrade in the future

that is why i added the non stock cooler

Thanks in advanced guys:)

As a notebook guy who knows zero? I would get 650w to 700w. I think gives a little head room but not like insane 1000w multiple GPU's.

I think you could get by on less. Let's see what the experts say?

both

at the moment min would how much would i need?

also how much would i need after OC or Update?

thanks mate

650 is more than enough for what you are running now. 850 if you ever plan to crossfire or sli cards.... look into XFX, Corsair for good power supplies

Actually, with your setup the way it is:
1st-the rig is dual channel, a 4gb kit should do nicely.
2nd- a good 500w ps w/gts450 will leave room for oc and headroom(because your mb has 1 x16 slot so no cf)
If you change to a cf board for future upgrade, about 650w min will do for 450 x2.

A 500 watt power supply would do you well and give you some head room as long as you don't go out and buy a power hungry graphics card. If you're planning to get a gaming card then I would say 600-650 watt. I am referring to quality units of course.

Hold up guys...let's have a look here.

If you're overclocking and/or planning on adding a second gts 450 at some point, I'd grab a 600W+ one just to be on the safe side. If not, you should easily be able to power that with a 450-500W. (Or a 430W...there are a lot of those for some reason)

As mentioned, there's not going to be a second anything x16. But maybe the TS will respond and let yous know.

Thank guy s for your input

haven`t really thought about 2nd gpu in the future
gts 450 should run most games for awhile!? (i am not much of an expert an this )
if not i might consider upgrading in the future
And what is s a cf mobo?
thank again for all the different reply`s

I should have said SLI, which is running 2 video cards. CF=CrossFire, and that's ATI/AMD's dual card lingo. SLI is nVidia. As far as the 450's relative performance, I can't say.

Ah, I didn't see that the board only had one x16 slot.

The useful part of crossfire/sli is that you can buy a card, then when it starts to get outdated (read: cheap), you can buy a second one and run them together. Newer designs can add upwards of 90% in graphics performance over a single card.

Since the board doesn't support it, though, you won't need a beefy PSU at all. I'd shoot for something in the 500W range to allow for upgrades.
