How much should I OC?

Under load? Whats your idle temps, and what program are you using? If speedfan, is that core temps or just CPU temp?

What cooler are you using?

Did you measure that voltage while stressing the cpu?
Also, you can add voltage and get more heat. But I wouldn't pass 1.5v and 80*c.
1.4v and 65*c max for daily oc.
And yes it's safe, add enough voltage to get it stable.

Have you watched the video? Please tell before I do it!

No, but plz measure your voltage in cpu-z again while testing the bench.
I'm on my phone, so the video isn't clear enough to read...

What are your temps and voltages?

I see you're trying to overclock an E8400. 4.0GHz is about as high as they'll go, you will be hard pushed to get it any higher than that I reckon. But it all depends on your motherboard and cooling and chip. Some chips overclock better than others. Try 3.8GHz and see what happens.

Hmm around 27* and 1.2V core voltage
OK im going to try 3.8

I assume your PC is blue screening at 4.0GHz when you try and stress test it and not when it's idle?

What are your temps at 4.0GHz when the CPU is under 100% load?

But try 3.8 and see if it still blue screens. 4.0GHz is a pretty high OC for an E8400.

it still bsods at 3.8.
At 4.0 GHZ are @ 30-35

BSOD'ing at load or idle?

What motherboard are you using? And I guess you're overclocking in the BIOS and not using software?
BSOD immediatly after I click win8 in the OS selection screen.
Im using ASUS P5KPL-C/1600 and of course, BIOS

Yeah I've got a P5KPL with a Q8300 - not a great board for overclocking it must be said (though the E8400 is a better overclocking chip than the Q8300).

I think may you may be quite limited as to how high you can overclock with that board. I'm guessing that when you completely remove the overclock everything works fine?

Keep lowering the multiplier and the voltage until you get something stable. Try 3.6GHz with a slightly lower voltage. If that doesn't work, try 3.5, 3.4 etc.

What settings have you got for your RAM? That may be affecting your overclock.
