How much sould I charge?

Well I've had a few people ask me to build computers for them. One of them is more like a friend of a friend and the other is becoming more of a friend. If I could build them the system for free I would, since I love building them and helping out, but the truth of the matter is that I can't aford to do that. Both of the systems will run about 2,000. I will be selecting the parts, buying the parts, building it for them, maintain it and other things. I don't know weather I should charge by hour, percentage or by a base price. I'm leaning towards the base price. I've had people say charge anywhere from 50 bucks to 150 and above. What do you guys think I should charge? If you need any more info just ask.

I would charge..but remember this is only me talking,
I say about 300+

who ever said 50-150 is just trying to get a good deal
i mean the 2gig ram is 200+ on its own

then you have the 9800 pro which is another 200+

so yea i dont know why you would sell it unless your getting a newer *better* one
but if you do and you dont want to rip yourself off and you dont want to rip the person off just sell it for 300+.
(selling tip) start at like 400 then go down..

LOL, sry mate you got me confused. The system your looking at is my system in my sig. I was asking how much I should charge them for selecting the parts, buying the parts, building it for them, maintain it and other things. I would never sell my pc for 300 let alone 50-150 lol. I was asking to see if thoes prices were to mcuh to chage for the build. Thanks anyways mate, Bob.

You know it, what I love about the two I'm building soon, is that one is all sound and the other is all graphics. So there I get to deal with the high end sound pieces and the other high end cpu/ gpu and the like. hehe I can't wait. And trust me they will be high end parts, that cost alot :P .
 
Depends also on how valuable the contact is ... so sometimes ill charge 4% for a valuoable networker ... otherwise it scales up to 200%.
 
Charge an hourly rate, something where you can make it worth your while and still fair for a customer say like $20 or $25 an hour would be a fair price, a computer shop charges $50 an hour and up!
 
For a friend I would charge 50$ to putiit together and install windows and couple other essentails on the PC.
