how much will these videocards bottleneck my cpu.
6600 gt
6800 gt
6800 gs(whats the difference between this and the gt)
7800 gt
7800 gtx(256 mb version)

my specs for my computer are in my sig.

I dont think any of them will 'bottleneck' your 2.8 cpu.
Youd surely see better performance with the higher end cards tho

None of them will bottleneck your cpu, but your cpu will bottleneck the cards.

But if you want a new card, i would recommend the 6800GS.

is the GS better than the GT cause i was looking at the GS and it has 12 pipelines and the GT has 16 pipelines. ya i meant will my cpu bottleneck the videocards just had it worded it wrong.

I have seen benchmarks and tests comparing them and the GS was a better performer.

nonononononononooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

the GT is the better card, the GS benches better due to its higher clocks, the GT preforms better in games due to its extra pipelines, benching doesnt do any justice

What?

..that just doesnt seem right

Geoff5093, do you have any kind of research to back up your claim?

Like everyone else said. If you get a new graphics card in order to get full preformance out of it ull prolly need to get a better cpu.

....uhh everyone did not say that. I disagree. I have seen a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 handle much more than some 3d games..( I know, I know.. the new games are resource intensive.. blah.. blah..blah) the whole point of having a high quality graphics card is so that it picks up where the cpu leaves off... there is NO need to get a new cpu.

so a 7800 gt or gtx would work fine in my system without upgrading the processor at all. would i be able to upgrade the processor in my dell 4700 from a 2.8 with HT to like a 3.4.
