How often can u apply thermal paste

So how often are u supposed to apply thermal paste? Also, i just recieved my arctic 5 so I wanna apply it, but I put on some paste about a month ago. Will it do any harm?
 
applying paste costs about 10 minutes.. the average life of a human was about 80 years. so, than you could apply thermal paste about 80 * 365 * 24 * 6 = 4204800 times :D

j/k just remove the old paste before you apply the new paste. ;) because if its not the same paste, you might get an unwanted reaction.

You can do it as many times as you want. I think it was Dragon on here who said, he applies new past every week.
 
I'd say at least once a year. I probably do it 4-5 times a year because i play around with other CPU's or i just clean out my system and want to. It won't harm your PC cleaning it out often, but after a while it should be changed just to get a new contact between the HSF and CPU.

Changing it once a week isn't necessary. If anything it's not quite as effective as waiting a month or so at LEAST. By one week, the paste has just finished setting in and yielding good temps, only for you to wipe it off again? Doesn't make any sense to me why u need to do it once a week.

What if you change cooler/mobo/cpu. There are occations when a change is needed

Sigs are not a requirement of membership, and in some cases bear more resemblence to member wish lists than there actual rigs ;)

Except for the reason listed above you shouldn't change it during cleaning.

Weekly/monthly is a bit excessive. The only time I change the paste is when I remove the heatsink, usually during de-dustification, and I do that once a year at the most (sometimes not for a couple years)
