My antivirus scanner runs resident on my system so it is constantly scanning my files. I use Avast!, it is great and has almost no system footprint. I also run Spysweeper and Spyware Doctor every week on fridays. Then once a month, I go through and delete all my temporary files and run jv16 powertools registry scanner and fix all it finds. My computer is smoking fast. XP start times in less than 20 seconds from coldboot and less than 5 from hibernate.

I voted never, but really that option isn't for me. My computer is not open to the world, in fact quite opposite. I secure everything at the network level, don't use crappy P2P applications like Limewire and others that are just filled with malware and viruses.

I haven't had a virus/malware/spyware in over 7 years on my systems, so I stopped using Anti virus software a long time ago.

Well i run scan only when i connect any external device like a pen drive. My antivirus takes so much time that i have to do it once in a month. Otherwise it continues scan for the start up items. I think its enough to run scan once a month.

I never run scheduled scans, the only time i ever scan my computer is when something goes wrong, and before I do that i always check the reg keys first, coz nine out of ten times that i get a virus or adware its faster for me to just remove the keys manually....if I find any, otherwise I let AVG or ad-aware do the hard work.
