How old is my Hard Drive?

I'm trying to find out how old my WD Passport Hard Drive is. I know you can take them apart to find out but is there another way because if I try and take them apart I will never get them back together again. I even tried the serial number but may not in the right place.

usually a date somewhere on the hdd itself.by take apart you mean remove the hdd from the case?

It's not on the cover and yes remove the case and you can put it back but I'll just screw it up

The date should be printed on the drive chassis.

You can get other information from SMART such as total amount of power on hours etc. Here's a direct download to CrystalDiskInfo which can read SMART information on the drive and also provide you serial etc.

Serial number should tell you date of manufacture on WD website.
