How to.. 3 monitors

Hey all,

I am building my own desktop in the near future and I would like to hook it up to 3 monitors. How do I go about doing this? Is there anything I need to know about the graphics cards or the ports? Preferably HDMI, but not necessary for all 3 of them to be.

I don't know if this matters but it will have a Blu-ray player as well as a DVD-RW player/writer.

Cheers.

most likely you will have 2 DVI and a HDMI and Display Port, and can use them in any combo, though with dell monitors i am hearing down the grapevine you need a certain cable for them that can only be supplied by dell...

If you are going for a gaming build, get something that has Eyefinity support (for AMD) or surround support (nvidia) Both of those technologies will support 3 monitors with one card.

If it is a non gaming build there are a few cards on Amazon that I have seen that will support 3 displays without the extra performance in games.

I can't say for sure if Dell has their HDMI ports locked down or not. I use DVI for my 3 Dell displays. If they are in fact locked, they are most likely locked down with HDCP. You would just need a HDCP compliant cable to get it working. Not sure if that is really necessary though.
