How to accommodate an additional 3TB HD?

Because of trying to restore an image on a WD passport drive, I have bought a 3 TB, SATA hard drive as a second drive to a 1TB hard drive, in order to carry out back ups etc. The size is only recognised as being about 750GB, which appears to be a common problem. I think the BIOS requires to be altered or changed, in order to recognise the full available storage of the 3TB drive. What is involved to effect this?

(I am now thinking of using the new 3TB drive as the Primary drive, and the existing 1TB as the backup drive).

Is there anyone with a solution out there?

What motherboard do you have? I do believe you need one that has UEFI bios in order to detect anything bigger than a 2tb drive.

What OS are you using? I believe in order to exceed 2TB the drive needs to be setup as GPT, not MBR and XP does not support GPT.

Yeah the problem is likely that your motherboard BIOS doesn't recognise anything bigger than 2TB. You could try updating to the latest BIOS if you haven't already.
