How to avoid picture stretching with WS monitor

I have a 19" WS LCD at 1440x900 and all of the pictures I put on my desktop are stretched. Is there anyway to fix this?

you have to download only 1440x900 pics.
set this pic as your wallpaper. It must be fine now.

I meant pictures already on my computer from my camera.

if you want you can center the picture with lines on the sides so that it isnt streched. go to display, desktop, and in the little drop down menu on the right you will see the option right there. this is how to do it with most versions of windows, what OS are you running?

XP. When I select center, it just zooms in the picture a bit and cuts out a bunch of the edge.

use a picture editor and resize it to the widescreen resolution and keep the aspect ratio.
