How to BIOS

I figured out what I want to get to build my comp from a previous post. But my main concern is pressing that power button for the first time . I haven't seen anything around that explains BIOS in detail. I'm getting an ASUS mobo and heard they are easy. Can someone explain this for me?

Thanks,
Alex

A motherboard comes with the BIOS already installed, and the default options will work for most people. The main reasons you would want to access the BIOS would be for overclocking, enabling/disabling onboard features, and changing the boot order.

As for doing the above things, most of it is pretty straight forward. The first screen that pops up when you turn your computer on should tell you how to access the BIOS, usually by pressing F2. From there on the menu option are fairly straight forward.

awesome, thanks for the reply pohtaytoez I laughed loud at your name haha. Ok so I'm not going to overclock, do I just skip the bios completely and win7 will show up?

I also heard to keep the graphics card out for setup and then put it in after the setup, but on only some boards?

Ill be building my first one soon as well. This part scares me more than anything. So, I basically boot it up and I do not want to overclock, but what features would I possibly want to enable or disable? When do I put the OS disc in? Right when I turn it on? Then do I go into my BIOS and then install my OS? Thanks in advance.

The only setting that you might have to touch when you first turn on your PC is the boot priority. Go into your BIOS and make sure that the CD/DVD drive is the first on the boot priority. It might be under boot -> boot priority or something like that. Once the value is changed you need to save and exit. You can do this by hitting F10 or moving over to exit and selecting save and exit.

Just another tip...
If you think you may have changed something that you did not want to just exit the bios without saving the changes.

The BIOS isn't all that hard to get used to. I go by if I don't know what the options are, don't change them.
