Just wondering if anyone knows how to block specific websites on a computer?(like facebook and stuff) my friend asked me to setup something like this for his employees netbooks, its a plumbing business and they take the netbooks with them so they can do quotes and invoices straight away and sends them via e-mail but he doesn't want them visiting facebook and stuff.

Anyone has any suggestion of software or anything else?

Some routers will allow you to block specific websites. This will obviously block on any computer connecting to it. I've done it several times on different netgear routers. Might be worth looking into.

opendns.com is a nice free one. It can be easily averted but it works well if you can block changing the DNS ip

He really would need to remove administrator privileges for their user accounts, and probably use some third party software, to block their access. Anything he installs can simply be undone by the users, if they still have admin privileges.

I just checked on this as follow-up to another post...I know the guy managing the network and systems. At my small company, they use what I'm told is very inexpensive software called Office Cyber Alert. As I understand it, it allows specific websites to be blocked, which they do to a limited degree, but primarily tracks the PC and online activity including websites visited, how much time, etc. I guess it's more of a precaution to occasionally provide a tool to help support computer use rules and protect the company if anyone is engaging in some shenanigans online. He says it's pretty cool and easy to use.
