How to boot CD to ISO or IMG file

I have created a bootable CD that steps through a menu to update laptop BIOS.

Most of the upgrades are working fine because it is small enough to fit onto a floppy and I just create a IMA or IMG file, but I have a couple of upgrades that would not fit on a floppy so normally I would burn the ISO file to a CD.

I'm using UltraISO to create this Utilities disk.

My problem is:
I have tried using the ISO file you download
I have also tried creating a IMG file from expanding the ISO file

When I step through the menu to get to these upgrades all I get is: "No-emulation type image (Raw)"

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Debbie

Want a free program that will do a better job burning iso images to disk? I can name a few here for you since the program you using now doesn't seem to be doing the job for you there.

Burning iso images is one thing BurnOn, DeepBurner, Starburn, and a few others do well in seeing bootable disks made from iso images. The first thing however is to burn the entire iso image you download so that everything it comes with is complete. Some of the files evidently need a few of the others present in order to work.

BurnOn's free version is found at http://www.burnworld.com/burnoncddvd/ This one works great with Linux iso images for live distros and GParted live as well as for other type of iso images.

Another cross platform burning program is StarBurn found at http://www.binarymagic.com/free.html
DeepBurner is used by several here and found at http://www.deepburner.com/?r=download

Once extracting individual files out the iso image there you simply ended up burning a data disk and not how it was intended to be burned. Another thing besides the program used would be a look at the blank media being used as a last thought. Occasionally you simply end up with a few frisbies to toss.

I don't have a problem burning a ISO to CD to boot up on and upgrade the BIOS.

I'm trying to add these BIOS upgrades onto a CD with several other BIOS upgrades and then go through menu options to get to them and run them.

What I need to know is how to put the BIOS upgrade onto the CD to run after picking this option in the menu.

I did see at one time that one of my co-workers did some type of .bin file that pointed to a folder with the extracted files.

Not sure what direction to go on this

Thanks

Generally any board sees only one version going on at any one time. You don't go through a list but simply see the latest single update flashed. For the floppy method(old way) you would see a copy of the update at the root of the OS drive as well as on the floppy disk itself.

Once booted from you then run the flash tool that accompanies the bios update on the floppy. You used the rename(ren) command followed by the current bios name and then the update. ren bin1029 bin1165 or something close with the exact spelling to press the enter key and even watch a progress indicator.

As time went on you then saw a winflash tool included with the update where you simply double click on the downloaded file to see the updated bios version go on. With the more recent and latest boards out now you will note an EZ Flash option at startup time for live updates on many boards.

If I look into the expanded .ISO/.IMG file it has a 'lcreflsh.bat' that has this line "flash2.exe /u".

The other .IMG files I have (the one's that would fit on a floppy) have the same exact file.

So it seems strange that this .IMG file would not work like the others.

You may have seen a bad download where one file was incomplete while the rest simply went on without a hitch. At times I've to redownload things to finally get a working copy of something.

The best thing to look at however is the user manual and the support site's faq/knowledge base section seen there. When going to update a bios you always want to follow the manfacturer's specific instructions for seeing that done.
