How to Build a Computer With a Video Tutorial

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there was some video tutorial explaining how to build your computer from the ground up (for dummies like me :D)
The idea is to go to the store, get the pieces and cement them myself at home.

I can see you asking: why not just let a pro at the store do it ?
Many reasons such as: I'm paranoid (how do I know the guy puts the components I paid for and not inferior ones ? new ones instead of second hand ones, delicate electronics falling on the floor and them just putting the maybe broken stuff in anyways and so on ...

Also a tutorial on how to tweak the Bios would be useful I think.

Thanks,
Quexos

Thanks, I watched the whole thing and It gives me a fairly good idea of how to do this on my own.

But I don't see what critical info is missing. Also the only part that is hard is the wiring. There are so many wires in there that to get the right one at the right place seems almost impossible.

Also the static electricity thing worries me. Can I get it off me by touching metal right before taking the motherboard in my hands ? If I somehow find that wrist, to what do I connect it and do I need to keep it all the time during the assembling process, Is it better if I don't touch the floor or do I have to touch the floor (with my feet I mean) and so on ...

Yah, I just keep my foot on my metal desk or the base of my chair. You can also touch the screw on the plug plate on your wall if you want to be extra sure.
Also, do you really live in Brussels? Because your avatar is ... American-like.

Yep I really do live in Brussels. I just like some American shows which is where I picked my avatar from :)

About the static electricity, not sure this is stupid or not but wouldn't wearing surgical gloves (the rubber white ones that stick real close to the skin of your hands kind of like a condom LOL) fix the static discharges issue ?

Just checked it and for a guide made with pictures it looks great indeed. But still a video guide is better I think cause some stuff I just don't fully get until I have actually seen it (like in a video).

So anyone can tell me if using surgical gloves while handling the MOBO would prevent any static discharges or not ?

Basically, touch the bare metal of the case before handling components, it will discharge any static buildup.

Yeah, if it comes down to me building my computer, I'll do that.

You know when you think about it, it seems not sensible to believe that a bunch of electronic circuits like those of a motherboard can take a full 220 Volts when you plug it at home, for years and years and basically be fine, but that some SUPER LOW charge such as the insignificant static electricity built up in your body and passing when you touch it, would actually fry it ???

I have to say D'oh ! (Homer style)
