how to change copy option

I know this is a dumb question, but I have a total brain fart and its driving me nuts. What I want to do is change how my copy is at the moment, when I copy and drag something to a different spot on my HD it leaves the original and makes another copy in the place. What I want to do is just drag and drop instead of copying, I know there is a simple way to change it. But its driving me nuts because I can't think of how at the moment. Thanks for your time.
 
If your using Win XP then you could you the 'Move To' funtion on the toolbar. This will move the file instead of copying.

It might not be there, for which you would have to right-click> customize> and add to the toolbar.

If you want to copy in the way then you will need to add the 'Copy To' function to the toolbar.

when you right click and drag, a little menu comes up and you can select if you want to move file, copy file, and something else. the default option is in bold font. where are you trying to drag and drop to. i know whenever i drag and drop files to my mp3 player the default option is copy, but moving between folders in windows, the default is move. hope this helps
