here it goes i have a old computer running windows xp professionsal want to reboot it and install windows xp home edition what do i do?

Um...any reason you're downgrading to Home? Heh, or should I even ask? :P

As you begin the install process, there should be an option to partition and format the hard drive. Just format it(unless you have partitions you want to get rid of) and you'll have a fresh start.

fairpoint ok here it goes i am used to xp home as have 2 computers running windows xp home, just picked up a old computer on ebay but has windows xp professional installed wanna unistall and insert windows xp home as have a brand new windows xp home disk basically wanna change computer to windows xp home:)

The XP installer doesn't automatically partition and format the drive. You first either choose to delete the current partition and have the installer create a brand new one which would be better to do there. Or you can simply delete the current installation of XP Pro. Since that is a used system where you don't know what viruses or adwares, spywares, whatever, you will want to clean the drive off anyways.

The actual differences between the two versions of XP are "MINOR"! The Pro version includes the msdos.sys, config.sys, and other dos related files for backward capability for logging onto older networks and includes a few others items for network support. The main interface is identical iin every other way except "name". That's about it name only. A few different commends in some cases for tweaking things. But other then that you can run anything else on the Home version you can on XP Pro.

I think you should stick with XP pro if you have it. I would do clean install of XP to start on a clean slate, and that involves taking all needed data out and formatting it.

dellehead is asking how to get the Home edition on there. A fresh install of the Home version on a new clean partition will work out the best while a simple deletion of the current Pro installation should sse Windows go right on. The reason for making a change of versions has everybody wondering since both will run the same games, programs, whatever.
