How to configure, if needed.

After some help from this thread, I have my new built computer booting up as it should.

Now, I have tried to start in Windows using a hard drive from another PC, that I know works. When I connected this hard drive and booted up, I got the BSoD. Windows failed because of a recent hardware change, etc. (0x0000007b is the code if this helps.) I searched about for this and couldn't find anything useful.

So, I formatted another SATA drive and tried installing Vista onto it. I got the 'bootmgr is missing' message.

My question is: do I need to configure the motherboard or change any settings to, I dunno, allow the hardware change?

Motherboard: ASUS m4a785td-v evo
CPU: Athlon II X2 250 3.0 GHz 2MB Cache Dual Core Processor
 
You can't swap hard drives between systems, you need to format the drive. otherwise you will encounter problems like this.

It's saying it failed from a hardware change because it's from another system.

How about the 'bootmgr' message? I quick formatted that drive, stuck it in the new machine, inserted the Vista disc to install, changed BIOS to boot from CD.

bootmgr is missing.
 
See if you can press a button to access the boot menu when you power on the machine. mine is F11 but yours could be anything really.
 
So I installed Vista. Although, the key is only licensed to one machine.. my laptop.

Is there a way of copying/cloning the operating system (nothing else, no drivers, files, etc) onto this drive, so that I don't have to buy Windows again? This is legal, right? Both HDDs are SATA.

EDIT: If a mod sees this, can they move it to the appropriate forum please. Thanks.

bios>boot priority>CD as 1st> disable others. has worked for me.
