how to delete a partition

i have installed windows xp on my toshiba laptop .........but when i was installing the xp ......i notice that it showed me other partitions.... i picked one and it installed xp ......but the laptop had windows 98 on it........so im wondering if i installed over windows 98 or i have to go back and delete the other partitions that im not useing......if so can i go back in with the xp cd and delete the other partitions to make more space on the laptop........and also the other partitions where fat and a ntfs somthing like that when i installed i picked the ntfs cause i read something about delete the fat ......
 
I think there are ways of deleting the partitions using certain software, not sure how though.

The only way I know how to do it you would have to delete all partitions and re-install windows.

Alternatively you could just open up My Computer and select a drive without windows on it, right-click and select "Format" and wipe that drive clean, therefore giving you space to store stuff.
Thats what I would do.

Someone may be able to help you with deleting partitions though.
