How to disable firewall on Chinese networks?

I'm currently in China for vacation, and due to really silly government regulations, all Chinese-manufactured networking devices like modems and such has a firewall that prevents access to any popular foreign sites like youtube.
Does anyone know how to permanently disable these firewalls (software methods, I don't think I want to or know how to take apart the modem or anything)? Proxy only provides a temporary solution, and since proxy does not allow downloads, it still does not solve the problem since I can't even access file sharing sites such as mediafire.

I'm pretty sure disabling the firewall on my own private laptop is 100% legal, and the network is not a company one, it's a home one too. Also it's not illegal to access youtube in China as millions do, they just have their own ways. They just want to make it hard for people to access it to promote their own indigenous websites like the youtube clone tudou.com.
There are some methods listed here (though most don't work): http://www.sizlopedia.com/2009/03/26/unblock-access-youtube-in-china/. I just want to get some better opinion on these methods.
 
Im positive that it is not legal to disable a firewall that a government has put into place. Im sure people are getting around it, people do illegal things all the time, but that doesnt mean its legit, especially if it requires 'special software' and hacks to get there.

Getting past the censoring in china is illegal, thats why it is called censoring.....
