How to disable the search for available wireless connections in win7?

Every time I start the computer, Windows 7 tries to detect all the available wireless connections in the neighborhood, and it slow the computer 'cause there are a lot.

I can't figure how to disable that.

I just want to see my own wireless network, and to connect/deconnect to it manually, when I want to.

you can try disabling the wireless adapter and enable it manually when you want to connect to your network.

to do this: rt click on Network> Properties > Change adapter settings. then find your wireless adapter, rt click and disable.

also, when you connect to your network check 'automatically connect'.

i think it's still going to go out and scan for signals, that's just what it does.
