How to enable x16, only running at x8

If you are going to go high end when prices do drop you may want to go with an ATI Crossfire setup then. I ran through three cards on one board trying to find out what was going to work. All three would have worked easily enough. But I just had to go from two 128mb to a 256mb AGP card there. The next one I get will be an ATI model 512mb card. Surprisingly a friend's new build saw a 512mb AGP there since he refused to go PCI-Express.

that ok if you want benchmarks now...
but i have a SLI mobo too, and personally im gonna wait til prices drop and newer cards come out.
the best way to do it is to buy two cards at once.
i learned that because the companies are selling the 7900gt around the 7800gt prices... so i'd feel bad if i spent just as much on a 7800gt when i could simply buy a 7900gt.
im thinkin ill wait for the next series to come out and get a 512mb card or two even.
also, the Physx cards will eventually use pci-e so its nice that i have the extra slot free if need be :)
Good idea but I got my 7800GT months ago. I could try to sell it and get a 7900GT and then get another one of those since the prices are close, but I need a job first ;)

That always helps! You need resources to even buy hardwares that have been out for a period of time. But then you could also save a few bucks by going with a second 7800GT. When you are ready and have money for upgrading you may also be looking at other new hardwares as well including a board that will run at 16x. A board now with a newer chipset will have fallen in price by that time where again you would be 1/2 way to a new build altogether.
