How to fix problem with new Jetway MB

Hi everyone,

I am newbie on MB stuff. Yesterday I got a shocking problem, my computer couldnot turn on because there had been a shock or sort of with my home electricity. Then I brought it to ITwarehouse they said my MB is dead. They say I have to change MB and PSU (plus video card, total cost is 224$ --> poor me!). I took them home and did a windowsXP repair and install driver for the new MB. Since then my system run very unstably and sometime very slowly, especially if I run some program, for example, just unrar a compressed file (very shocking to me because my old MB used to run very perfectly on everything --> I am so upset now). When I open "Windows Task Manager" I see that the CPU usage is always very high and runs crazy, sometimes 20% then can be 96% immediately and will always be around nearly 100% and 100% if I just run a small program. I wonder what can be the cause.

My system configs (I think I should give you as much infor as I can):

Processor: Intel P4

Before my MB is Gigabyte P4 Titan FSB800, model name: GA-8S661FXM, P4 Socket 478 / AGP8X (perfectly worked)

Now the new MB (costing me 95$): Jetway, Make one PC Two (+ Magic Twin), model name: 848PTWIN, support Intel P4 CPU/AGP8X.

- Hope someone can point me out the causes and give me some advice. Should I reinstall windowsXP from scratch.

- I just want to ask you why they dont try to find which part on MB is dead then just replace that part instead of changing the comletely new MB. Is there any where they can work on MB itself then fix its problem, that should be far more economical (I am just a student).

- Have anyone used 2-user MB and tell me how it works as two stations (work finely and stably or not?).

Thank you very much and hope to get your help soon.

I agree, backup, reformat, and reinstall windows. You should also get a surge protector to prevent component damage in future.

As already mentioned, best would be to back up your data, wipe teh drive and reinstall. I reiterate ceew1l's recomemendation to surge-protect your computer or, even better, invest in an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).

Diagnosing and repairing a motherboard, really, is not very cost-effective-- the small-lot cost of replacement parts makes it more economical to purchase a new board, especially since a failure generally results in damage to multiple components.

Trouble with my installations

Thanks to all of you for your help.
Has anyone used this MB before and how about its functioning as two stations (works well or not?)

I did a fresh install already. But there's something wrong. When I install the sound device (AVrack97) it say doesnot pass windowsXP logo tesing, then strongly recommended to stop, I ignored and kept on installing, after that it required re-start, then I restarted but it couldnot go to windows, it started for a while then re-start and kept on restarting again and again but never got to windows, this software I used to install with my old MB and there had never been anything wrong. Ok, then I had to do install windows again and downloaded this updated version and installed it and its fine now. But now once again I want to install my USB net card driver (conexant USB for my Web Excel router PT-3830) It say doesnot pass winXP logo again (this I used to install normally with my old MB), then now I got stuck because I dont dare to ignore to keep on installing otherwise my windows may face trouble again and I have to re-install my windows.

So my question is: what is the cause here? Is it from my new MB (because I think MB has nothing to do with this problem of not passing winXP tesing logo or not --> very strange to me because those two softwares used to work well with old MB and never faced the trouble of passing logo or not). I really need your answer.

If possible could you show me where I can get the latest version of conexant USB net card driver for my Web Excel Router PT-3830. I hope it will work with latest verion.

Thank you and look forward to your help

I would keep on installing, because you know what the software is. When Windows would not boot after installing the sound card, what screen did you get to? Could you boot in safe mode?

Well then that is probalby as it tries to load windows. You said that reinstalling fixed it? And the same drivers worked after you reinstalled? If so, then it is probably a problem with the installation. But really, I don't know. A program like Norton GoBack would be nice to use in situations like this.
