How to format my hard drive

I know go to your hard drive under my computer and right click it than to format, right? Mine won't let me. How do I do it? And How do I create a partition?

You can't format the active partition!

You need to use a Windows install disc.

Have you got a Windows Xp or Vista OS disk?
If not, you can't do it!

Are you talking about the drive that is running your OS you cannot format it while its running the OS.

Best way i have found to format a drive is to hook it into a existing computer,

Start> right click mycomputer>manage>diskmanagement>then select the drive you wish to format.
