How to format?

My hdd currently has 3 partitions, C, D and E. C has windows 7, D has windows XP and E is a storage partition. I'm trying to format D but I cant do it in windows. The format option is always greyed out. (I have the XP installation disc but i would rather format using a graphic interface since i tend to make stupid mistakes). Tried deleting the partition, then recreating it?

D probably has the Boot Files on it. So Windows won't let you Format it.

You can't format the active partition. You're gonna have to use something like GParted. However you'll probably loose the boot menu if you format the drive.
