Ive been trying to get into my laptop bios to change the boot order but nothing is working. Ive tried all the F# buttons and delete but none work. F8 though will go to a menu that lets me choose to start windows normaly or in other modes such as safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, ect... Any ideas on how to do this??

Insert and Escape are commonly used.
thanks i tried thos and they didnt work

are you pressing the only once? are you pressing them the second the computer turns on? What i do is hit F2 from when my comp starts up until im at the menu.

when the computing has just started to boat up at the black screen ..........its either escape or Delete

Did a little bit of digging, found this on the Toshiba Knowledge Base website.

"You can access the BIOS settings on these models using any one of these 3 methods.

From the Windows Control Panel, launch the Toshiba HWSetup program. HWSetup provides a user-friendly graphical frontend for modifying BIOS settings. Please note that if you change some settings, you may be required to restart your computer. HWSetup comes preinstalled on your Toshiba portable PC, or it can be downloaded as part of the Toshiba Utilities package for your model.

Press the [Esc] key while the system processes its Power On Self Test (POST). In order to use this method, the computer must be "off", meaning not in sleep/suspend or hibernate mode. Press the power button, then immediately press the [Esc] key (it doesn't hurt to hold the key down). When the POST finishes, you'll be prompted to press the F1 key to enter BIOS setup. Press the [F1] key to access the BIOS setup program.

From MS-DOS, run the TSETUP program. TSETUP must be run under real mode DOS (not a Windows-based MS-DOS prompt) with no memory manager (like HIMEM.SYS, QEMM386, or equivalent) installed. TSETUP was provided originally with your computer, or you can download it from this Website"

(im super exited, ive been trying to get this computer to work since last november!)

For me what i do to access BIOS is press delete when your first starting up your computer, before it is loading your operating system

I am getting really frustrated I hope someone can help.

I have a 3 yr old dell dimension 4400, and no matter what I do I cant access the bios. I cant remember which key it was, but I know I was able to before.

I tried all the F keys, tried the esc as instructed by dell website.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4400/syssetup.htm?c=us&l=en&cs=19&s=dhs

Nothing.

I have also removed memory sticks, thinking it would notice and put me into bios setup. nothing.

Removed power from hard drive and tried to boot from XP reinstall disk. It doesnt even boot up no more, but I know thats how I did it before.

Other than all the above the computer works just fine under normal conditions. But I will need to get into the BIOS soon to make changes.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Please. thanks

Not sure what you mean. Are you saying a function key with Delete? I meant del, not esc in my previous post. I could try that but...

A whole bunch of times I have tried to press a function key or some other key, and then the computer stops rebooting and just freezes I guess. So then I cut power and start again. If I touch nothing it will have a normal startup.

I also dont ever get a screen that says press whatever, to start setup. The first screen I see is choose user in XP. Is it possible something is wrong with the mobo?

Any suggestions please, this is really pissing me off.

Well i have a dell c610 ( i know its not the same computer) but to get in to the BIOS i have to hit function and the key that says set up on it in my case F1. but on your keyboard it should say under the regual buttons what they should do with function. i would look to see if on says setup on in for the funtion.

All I have is {Print Screen/SysRQ} and {Pause/Break} among others. But I would be surprised if its either. I will check on my next reboot.

Nothing... :(

You dont need need to reboot. im talking about physicaly on the keyboard if you have a key that says setup. on your keyboard any keys that have a use with the function key have it labled on them.

1. Don't dig up dead threads
2. Don't hijack other people's threads.
3. Create a new thread in the motherboard section.
