How to get more members

Didnt know where to post it so I posted it here.
I'm the owner of a forum but it's kinda dead. Does anyone have some tips how to get more people to my site and let them register. If someone could help me I will appreciate it.
 
It's pretty difficult to get a forum going about something that already has a lot of discussion groups about it (ie computers or gaming). Your best bet is to find something unique or that isn't real popular and then find members of love a similar crazy hobby or something. If you're set on the topic of your forum, getting friends and people you know in real life who are interested is the best way to get it off the ground. Ask them to be active and spread the word to all of their friends.
 
Or: Find a topic that is very touchy to talk about

Generally this attracts peoples attention and gets them to open up and speak their minds
 
Hi. I used to be a forum moderator. You need to have a Payed domain (not one of them freebie hosting which has something like www.yoursitename.hostname.com_)...
Also, pay for advertising! Advertising is like one of the BEST ways to gather people to your site and gets them to register because they like the site. Also, design! Have a awesome template for your site. And one more thing. Correct Spelling, Gramma... You dont want your site heading to be "Wlcom 2 my site" . Correction: Welcome To My Site < You see Capital letters in beginning of all characters! That helps a-lot.

First start a blog and generate traffic of your niche... Once people start dropping by your blog, it woudnt be tough to drive them to forum. And you will get a genuine targeted traffic.

I know its a long way but its a sure shot...
