Hey people

My friend is offering to sell me his computer for a very good price and i really want to buy it...

the problem is, he cant remember his password, and there is no guest profile or admin profile or anything.

the computer has windows xp home, but I do not have the windows cd or recovery disk. Is there any way to get past the password without having to buy a copy of windows to re-install with?

Thanks!!!

Cold boot, F8 BEFORE Windows splash screen, Administrator, delete his account, make your own, reboot as you, victory dance.

That will work if there is no administrator password.

Hey duane534, i tried what you said and i could not find any 'administrator' settings. Is this menu you're talking about the basic system bios settings?

Could you go into a little more detail on the process? Thanks man

Duane534's instructions are to boot into Safe Mode then pick the
administrator account and see if it asks for a password.

You need to turn off the computer. After it begins to boot up
you will need to press the F8 key up and down. This will hopefully
take you to the boot menu. One of the options will be SAFE mode.
Choose that option and wait until the login screen appears. The
first option will be Adminstrator. Click it and hope it doesn't ask
for a password. If it doesn't you should be able to go into windows
xp. Once in windows you can go to Control Panel and under USERS
you will be able to remove the passwords or the whole account.

If you never see the Windows boot menu then you are pressing
the F8 can to late. Reboot and try pressing the F8 key up and
down sooner. Make sure that you press the F8 up and down. Do
NOT hold it down.

Good luck.

It might not be F8 you need to hit. Try a few...F4, F6, F8 and F10.

If none of that works..just shut off the computer when it reaches the Windows startup screen when the blue bar goes accross the screen. Do that once or twice and it will automatically go to the boot menu.

just a note you should press f8 when theres black background and white line going across the screen. if you get to the windows flashy stuff, the restart. ok.
