How to install a driver for my mobile phone?

I am trying to install a driver to allow my LG phone to be able to transmit files to my usb port. I called LG customer support and they showed me the driver to download, but when I download it, the file is just called "LG" with no file extension, and it won't open.

I tried changing the file extension to .dll, but this didn't work.

I have Windows XP Professional 2002
 
I believe all you need to do is change the USB port to data connection instead of charging so that your computer will recognize it and automatically install the driver.
 
You have the manual for it still? Look on page 99 under usb mode. If not, here is a screenshot of the manual. You want mass storage.

 
This setting was already set to mass storage. I'm going to try to find my old charger. When I plug it in, it charges, but says "Please check if the cable is plugged in correctly or recommended for this phone." I think because the charger I'm using was not the one that came with it, but was actually for a different device even though it has the same kind of plugs.
